Williams Art Advisory is a London-based practice advising private collectors and brands on acquisitions, collection development and management, commissions and cultural projects.
Founded by Matt Williams PhD, an art advisor, curator and writer with more than fifteen years of experience in contemporary art and culture, the practice draws on long-standing relationships with artists and galleries in the UK and internationally. Matt Williams has held senior curatorial roles at the Institute of Contemporary Arts and Camden Art Centre, alongside building private collections, developing acquisition strategies and working across art, music, fashion and independent publishing.
Commercial clients and collaborators have included 40 Duke, Aries, Art Partner, Boiler Room, K11, Loewe, NTS Radio, Palace Skateboards, PAN, Self Service, Selfridges and Studio Nicholson, reflecting an approach that extends beyond conventional art advisory and is informed by experience across contemporary art and wider culture.
Attentive to how art is made, encountered and collected, the advisory responds to each client individually, from sourcing a particular work or commissioning an artist to developing a collection or wider cultural initiative. Research-led and collaborative, it brings knowledge of established artists into dialogue with emerging work and shifting cultural contexts. Writing, talks, interviews and studio visits offer further insight and access, allowing ideas and interests to evolve alongside the collection.
The service extends from research and negotiation to framing, transport, installation and documentation, with direct collaboration with artists where required. Throughout, the emphasis is on a considered, engaging and discreet process, and on collections with a distinct point of view that gather meaning and resonance over time.
